Businesses today operate in an era of data abundance. Where capabilities exist to harness IoT data successfully, businesses may find new revenue opportunities and manage risks more effectively. Often, however, the pieces that make up the solution are scattered across the enterprise, hindering situational awareness and valuable insights. Increasingly, many organizations worldwide are looking at location data to connect these pieces and reveal hidden relationships, and experts predict the location analytics market to grow by CAGR 15% to 2028.

Businesses can fully and profoundly take advantage of IoT big data by not only thinking of data as groupings of devices, but a growing network of dynamic information that needs to be visualized to be understood. Dashboards to visualize the analysis of connected data provides the ability to spot trends and make quick, informed decisions at the right time.

Leveraging location intelligence changes the game. Businesses can tie real-time data to a location and run analysis on variables from different sources that contextualizes the insights to the community. For example, tracking a fleet of vehicles can not only help a business understand where the vehicles have been, but proactively plan for maintenance by tracking hours of use and distance travelled to automatically trigger the creation of preventative maintenance work orders in a work order management system. Other benefits can also be apparent in analyzing climate change, COVID-19 responses, emergency response, and deploying community safety programs, among others.

What drives location intelligence? The answer lies in GIS. Connected devices and sensors are inextricably linked to geography, as are people and spaces. In this session, we expand on the location equation to drive a smarter ecosystem for IoT.
