This is an excellent opportunity to connect to GIS professionals in Ontario, in person, and learn how people are utilizing GIS at their organizations to support Municipalities.

Keynote: "Thoughts On Adding Geo-Records To The Pilot Study On Best Practices For Citizen Access To Public Records." Dr. Barry Wellar

We are excited to announce Dr. Barry Wellar. C.M., GISP, Past President, URISA.org (1978), Professor Emeritus, University Of Ottawa, President, Information Research Board, as our Keynote for the event.

Dr. Barry Wellar graduated from Queen’s University and Northwestern University (MS, PhD). He is President, Information Research Board; Professor Emeritus, University of Ottawa; Distinguished (ret.) Research Fellow, Transport Action Canada; Research Advisor Emeritus, Federation of Urban Neighbourhoods; and Distinguished Research Scientist, Lab for Applied Geomatics and GIS Science, University of Ottawa. Dr. Wellar is a retired Member, Canadian Institute of Planners, and a Geographic Information Systems Professional. Dr. Wellar’s association appointments include former director and past president (1978) of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association, former director, Geography Awareness Week and GIS Day, Canadian Association of Geographers, and former chair, Applied Geography Specialty Group, Association of American Geographers. Received honors include the Horwood Award (URISA), the Anderson Medal of Honor in Applied Geography (AAG), the Service to Government Award (CAG), Citation for Achievement in Geography (Canada House of Commons), the Ullman Award in Transportation Geography, (AAG), the Award of Merit (National Association of Towns and Townships), Lifetime Achievement Award, Ontario Professional Planners Institute, induction into the GIS Hall of Fame, and appointment to the Order of Canada.

9:30am – 10:15am – Municipal Data Models Presentation

NG9-1-1 Data and the Municipal Enterprise

Marc Curtis, AGSI will present about NG9-1-1 Data and the Municipal Enterprise, a Common Data Model. He will provide background information to help you understand what it means, its requirements, components and benefits to the community. He will share his insights on the existing and new NG911 systems, public safety access points, real time data, obstacles and best practices associated with municipal data preparation.

10:15am – 11:00am – Municipal Data Analytics Presentation

Casey Price, Senior Vice President Of Sales at Environics Analytics and Paul Voegtle, GeoAnalytics Advocate at Esri Canada will present about how Data Analytics and ArcGIS Community Analyst can be utilized to support Municipalities

11:15am - 12:00pm Keynote: "Thoughts On Adding Geo-Records To The Pilot Study On Best Practices For Citizen Access To Public Records." Dr. Barry Wellar

  • Adam Commeford, Team Lead, Location Intelligence & Data Visualization, Digital Innovation & Information Technology at City of Brampton
The Panelists will discuss the variety of Municipal GIS Service Delivery Platforms that their GIS teams maintain, internally and externally, as well as, GIS related initiatives and innovations that are happening in their Municipalities.
