GIS MANAGEMENT: GEOSPATIAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES

Date: Wednesday, February 21st,  2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM

Seminar will be led by Greg Duffy (The Woodfield Management Group).

This 90-minute seminar will discuss business and management challenges related to the implementation of geospatial-based solutions. Time will also be spent discussing ways to promote geospatial data and technology within your organization to technical and non-technical staff to make them think and act.

Discussion topics will include:

  • Background and the ongoing challenge of explaining the value of a geospatial-based approach to business problems
  • Discuss “creativity” and how it starts with curiosity that is within each of us
  • Examples of creative geo-based implementations in history
  • The difference between costs and value; productivity and capability
  • Identify that the kick-off for a creative idea is the elevator pitch
  • Identify a 10-step business case approach
  • Wrap up by identifying themes that case reviewers may wonder about


Greg Duffy - Consultant and Owner of The Woodfield Management Group

Greg is a strategic and tactical Service and Technology Process management thought leader, author, speaker, facilitator, coach and consultant with substantial international front line, staff and policy experiences in utilities, governments, business and volunteerism.

Greg authored "Demystifying Business Cases for Information Technology ... and more ..."​ available at Kindle and Amazon.com worldwide. He has written many Executive Briefs in true white paper style (not brochure ware) and he has long been published in Information and Technology oriented journals and magazines.

He has spoken at conferences and business education events in Canada, United States, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to audiences of all sizes. He is a candid and sincere speaker using humour and experiences to good effect.

He is adept at explaining business issues and solution technologies in brief plain language, often with hands in full gesture mode.

His career experiences have spanned a broad spectrum of technology driven service and product oriented themes.

He believes strongly in lifelong learning and the pursuit of curiosity. As such, he always looks forward to a new experience and helping new friends deal with new (or old) challenges.

Greg developed his agile R-V-I model to present business investment programs and projects in light of Returns, Values and Impacts, especially where the traditional ROI/NPV may be unclear or sub-optimal in supporting or defining certain strategies.

Greg consults and coaches on strategy, tactics and program/portfolio governance for government, utility and business sector leaders and subject experts alike through workshops, speaking engagements, facilitation for program managers, strategic planners and line business unit personnel. His clients benefit from his tackling issues in balance from the supply side and demand side.
