Moving geo-data processing to the cloud: Common questions and answers

Learn more about the latest trends and options to use the cloud as platform for geo-date processing

These past couple of years, we have been asked the same questions by many clients: should we move our data processes to the cloud? Or, we are moving our infrastructure to the cloud, how do we move our data processing there as well? The adoption of cloud has been increasing in the past years as clients look for more scalable infrastructure. Even applications themselves are moving to the cloud, offered more and more as SaaS. With so many options and possibilities and scenarios, these are questions that raise multiple considerations, especially around how to shift those data processes to the cloud.

In this presentation, you will hear about the latest trends and some ways to use the Cloud as a platform for geo-data processes. We will look at different options and scenarios we have assessed for clients over the past few years and present some of the questions and considerations you may have.
•    What are the benefits and limitations currently available?
•    How will my current processes be impacted?
•    How does this impact how I implement data processing?

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

BeSpatial Ontario Announces BeSpatial 2023

As we start to actively plan and look forward to our 2023 AGM, we thought it might be appropriate to point out some of the highlights from BeSpatial’22.

By the feedback we received from our post-event survey, the past AGM was a resounding success. We hosted over 250 attendees, which is a fantastic turnout; the program featured a mix of business, technical and management sessions, with industry sessions and a workshop on Day 2; we were honoured to have Nora Young, host of CBC’s Spark, deliver the keynote, and thrilled to acknowledge our award winners and those folks lucky enough to win the prize draws.

A key component of the success was the support of our sponsors and exhibitors, without whom it would be difficult, if not impossible, to stage the event. They made themselves available for visits in the exhibit “area”, and delivered some fascinating industry sessions on latest trends in the Geospatial domain.

Some of these noteworthy highlights have been captured in the slide show below.

BeSpatial’23 will once again be a virtual event with the theme of BeCreative, taking place on May 2-3, 2023,  but we plan to supplement this with in-person regional events over the coming year. Please consider how you can help contribute to making BeSpatial’23, the premier geospatial and information community event in Ontario, another grand success.

You can BeInvolved by becoming a sponsor, exhibitor or volunteer, submit a presentation or a project for consideration in our Best Challenge Awards or the MApps challenge, or simply gather with your colleagues to attend. We’re all striving to ensure it will be time well spent.

Watch for upcoming announcements with more details. We look forward to seeing you in May.

Peter Hettstedt,  President, BeSpatial Ontario

Details on this year's keynote are coming soon!
